Chattanooga has several galleries specializing in crafts that are worth a
look/see:
Intown Gallery, 26 Frazier Ave. (423-267-9214), amid the shops and
eateries of the Nortshore District and near beautiful Coolidge Park on the
TN River - it's a cooperative gallery representing a wide range of work by
local artists.
Plum Nelly, 1101 Hixson Pike in North Chattanooga (423-266-0585) - it's
less than 5 minutes from downtown and the North Shore area, lots of pottery
and other crafts represented as well; other shops and restaurants nearby.
River Gallery, 400 E. 2nd St. in the Bluffview Arts District
(423-265-5033), just steps away from the Hunter Museum of Art and the
Houston Glass Museum; functional and sculptural claywork, painting,
photography and jewelry - very nice work overall. (Good restaurants and
coffee shop nearby!)
Wildwood Gallery, 20655 Hwy 11 N. (in the old Wildwood post office
bldg.), is the most recent addition to the gallery scene in the area and
worth the short drive from downtown (about 15 min.) It's also a cooperative
gallery, with weaving, metalwork, pottery, photography and painting. Hours
are 10 - 5, Thursday - Saturday, 1 - 5 0n Sunday.
There is also St. Elmo's Fire, at the foot of Lookout Mtn. in St. Elmo, an
interesting historic neighborhood, and New Moon Gallery on Frazier Ave.
(near Intown) as well as other shops and galleries around town.
Hope you have time for a visit!
Mary in TN . . . . Disclaimer: I have listed these galleries in
alphabetical order; they all have their strengths and unique personalities.
However, I am a (new) member of the Wildwood Gallery :>) and hope you get a
chance to stop by!
