This color change happens w/ my CrSn red as well. If I open the kiln before
it's cool, the reds are brown.

I don't pretend to know what's happening, but am curious as to why. I =
opened the kiln about 30 minutes ago..... just to peek in at the reds =
and purples that were positioned at the front of the kiln shelf just =
below eye level so that I could peer inside the pot also. The couple of =
reds are cream colored...... the purple is pale gray. I WATCHED the =
purple change within seconds from gray to lavender to speckled =
purple/red and become a deep red inside the pot as I watched. The red =
looked as if it were developing some color with vague very subtle strips =
of a deeper cream. ....... but all were singing their ping songs so I =
shut the door. Need to tell you that this time some of the red pots had =
the red layered over Filley's Sapphire and even the blue didn't show =
through...... all cream colored. The temperature inside the kiln was =
around 800 F. ????????

Once again, damn ^11 was flat .... I didn't use a ^12 so I don't know =
what the highest temp was. s***....... I DID fire down to 2000 F and =
hold it in oxidation for about two hours, but the flame kept blowing out =
so I had to shut it off instead of continuing for another couple of =
hours as planned. The purple was Tom Coleman's lipstick purple =
(commercial) and the red was Pinnell's red...... both of which I've =
fired many, many times.

Good news is that Filley's sapphire blue and emerald green looked =
great...... satiny, good color, no crazing even with the door =
open....... at least, not yet. Appear VERY stable, indeed. Love them. =
The green was more teal than emerald...... last load it was a deep green =
...... we'll see if that changes.... whatever, though it's a =
winner......=20

Odd, too, for I'm sure that Hank's red shino can fire to ^11 =
successfully, having done it twice before ...... but this time those =
pots were a chalky white ..... and too SEEMED to be changing colors, =
with the slip beneath the shino showing through a little..... but I =
closed up before being sure. I had reduced for the shino, at ^012, =
letting the red and purple ride along. I'll check again in about an =
hour.
Oddly enough, on quick look, nothing seems to have run....... not sure =
about that...... if so, it's a first..... well, a third.... last three =
loads haven't had runs.....

I'm sure I'm doing something else weird in addition to firing too high, =
not soaking as long as planned...... maybe too long for reds .... and =
opening and closing the door against advice. I'm curious, that's all.

We use a degussa red stain under the glaze, and when the kiln is opened a
bit soon, in the range yours was, the stain is a really dead pinkish gray.
Upon cooling, the color develops fully.

Had a couple of test pieces on the kiln a while back, with this stain on
them and pulled one right at 500 deg. C. Dull gray. Dunked it in some
boiling water and slowly ran cooler water in to cool it and the color
brightened right before my eyes! Don't know what causes this but it is
impressive to see, to say the least.
