Annette,
The best method of fixing cracks would be
in the bone dry stage. I use fine powdered
bisque mixed with "Bray Patch" (purchased
from Archie Bray in Helena, MT) to fill in
the crack. The bisque powder has already
done a lot of shrinking and will do a better
job of filling than will dry powdered clay.

I gathered lots of information from you (thanks all) about various
methods of crack fix. My question now is about the ideal time to fix
that crack. Is it best to do it at a soft, leather hard or bone dry
stage?
Thanks,
