specks under glaze ?

Hi Bud...

I'd like to know that too!

Actually here's another of those newbie questions I seem to be posing
lately...I know just enough to be dangerous.

I like varied, subtle, not terrifically shiny glaze, but I'm nowhere near
ready to start worrying about formulating my own. I can use whatever we
have at school, but it is mostly quite shiny, usually transparent, and not
really what I'm after on the red, black, or buff clay bodies I prefer.

I've got some Courtyard glazes from Duncan that I'm trying out (some I've
liked, some didn't do what I'd hoped), but does anyone here have suggestions
for someone needing to stay with commercial glazes for a while? I prefer
a satin or matte effect, subtle colors, but I'm dying for some GOOD cobalt
blue.

We mostly do lower-fire temps at school, too--I know that makes a
difference. Most of our glazes suggest ^04. And like Bud, I like the black
or brown specks as so many of my collection seem to have...

More help, please? Thanks, much! So much to learn...

Best--
Kate
