It is for this reason I mark my pottery "Ceramic Samples, No Commercial
Value" and send by regular post to the US. Fairly cheap, and the customer
owes nothing when the piece(s) arrives.

Form time to time I buy collectibles from Canada and/or other countries. For
anything from Canada, I am charged a US Custom fee of $26.00 U.S. by separate
mail from the US Customs Service. For some reason, I am never charged for packages
from Italy, Germany, etc. Seems like there is some "agreement" between the U.S and
Canada for this "customs fee". I don't know if it works the other way (i.e. from
US to Canada. I do know that I don't get charged these fees from Italy, Germany,
etc. Only Canada. Sam in Daly City, Ca. P.S. Anybody suffer these charges from
another country? Makes me feel like dumping the Tea in Boston harbor.

Yes - US to Canada also incurs charges. I was sent a replacement pin tool
(clearly marked "sample - no value") and Purolator tried to collect a $15
"import" fee from me. I refused the package. It was returned, and then
sent regular mail. I rec'd it no charge through Canada Post.

More information on UPS border fees. I received an order yesterday that was
sent UPS inspite of my request that other means be used, and the border
processing fee was $128.00- they order came in 4 boxes and a separate fee
was charged for each box.
So I got on the phone to UPS to try and have at least part of the fee
waived. No go. The fee is charged for every item sent UPS GROUND SERVICE.
If you use the air service, there is no extra charge. This might be
something to keep in mind, next time any of you ship up here (Canada)- and
make sure your customers are aware that while the air postage may cost
$10.00 more, they'll be saving that $30.00+ UPS ground service cost. Maybe
they'll want to spend the $20.00 they save on another mug!
