Sabra,
If you love plants like my wife and I do please do not miss Selby Gardens.
And for a nature treat the Corkscrew Swamp is absolutely wonderful assuming
there isn't a bunch of noisy bird watchers around.Course this being our
tourist season there is no guarantee.

There is also a wonderful bookstore to brouse in but the name escapes me. Any
cultured local will know.

Sorry to be so slow, but truthfully, the standard tourism stuff is about
all there is to see..however, there is a small show of maquettes for the
sarasota outdoor sculpture show that will be later this year..this is
free,2nd floor of the Selby library..there's the Ringling museum(yawn) go
on Monday ..ino entrance charge then....., there is at the Ringling
scholl of Art a small Gallery..Selby gallery but i don't know what show
they will be having there.. I can't even invite you to the studio I work
in because it is closed o until January 7th..however, lovely beaches,..if
you like looking at marvelous fabrics and clothing, in St Armands Circle,
a place called Dream Weavers..don't worry about buying anything,,you
can't afford it..I treat it like a fabric museum..

Theres a place called Towles Court..and there also is the Art Walk which
is downtown Sarasota..first Fri night of the month..many galleries of
different qualities.. The orchids at Selby gardens are wonderful and
that's about it, unfortunately. Oh yes, Venice Art Center and Longboat
Key Art Center sometimes have nice stuff...I"m sorry to be so unhelpful,
but truthfully, I lived in N>Y>C for a long time and my standards are
disgustingly high..LOL You will love the beaches..are you staying with
friends or at a hotel ?

Go to the Ringling Museum. I did the show there for years and the clay work
in the architecture of the main buildings will amaze and stun you.

If you like Salvadore Dali's work, the largest collection of his work
outside of Spain is in Florida within a couple hours of Sarasota. They
always have a rotating collection of his master works. Just simply an
extraordinary collection.

The Koger collection of Asian ceramics has just been donated to the Ringling.
It is one of the finest Asian ceramics collections in the states. The new
director of the Ringling was recently associated with the Cummer Museum in
Jacksonville, Florida. Ask if you may view the collection. Probably isn't on
display yet.
