I'm considering using a non-websafe color for my web site listed
below. Can you guys look at my home page below, and email me
privately what you see for the background color? It should be a
color called warm granite: a grayed beige. I'm so sick of all
the bright green and blue of my site....

Only email me if you see something radically different from this
description, like orange or puce! And tell me what
browser/system you use.

My other option is the combo on the page you get when you click
on the picture, a white background: BBBoring but consistant....

I figure Clayart has a great diversity of Browers/systems for
this kind of test

Thanks in advance for any help:
email me privately!! The poor list shouldn't suffer through this....
Jennifer

Jennifer brings up a good point about web-safe colors... the only
way to really be sure colors are going to look good is to view them
on a wide variety of systems.

*however*

The web safe color palette was designed to accommodate 8-bit (256
color) systems. Based on the tracking that I do as part of my business,
less than 8% of the systems in use are 8-bit. This percentage is
shrinking quite quickly as people replace or upgrade old systems.

It's clearly an individual decision as to how accessible you want your
web site to be, but I find a lot of professional designers abandoning
the idea of the web-safe palette, to deliver a richer look to the 92% +
of users who are not restricted to 256 colors.

Something to think about when designing your web sites...

Bob Nicholson

Thanks to EVERYONE who replied to my request. It was a great
help. I got a few comments saying it looked a bit green, but by
and large people said it looked as I wished: beige . I might go
a shade lighter, but I think I'm on the right track. You all are great!
Take Care
Jennifer, gearing up for our gallery's wild last days before
xmas......no time for individual thank you's :-(
