Getting rid of it is called a boot sector format. Clearing the
MasterBootRecord. FDISK will do this with a /MBR switch.
(if you don't know what this means, don't do it, it means a total reload of
your system)
Basically to change back to a previous OS, and get rid of all traces of
Linux, you have to start with a clean drive. Which means deleting all
partitions with FDISK, clearing the MBR with FDISK /MBR, re-partitioning,
reformatting, reloading your OS and all programs.
Unless of course you had the forethought to run a program like Ghost, or
Drive Image, or another disk cloning program. Then all you would have to do
is restore the image.

Hello,
I think you should fire your computer advisors. Linux is not really a user
friendly operating system. In fact it's a very user unfriendly operating
system. You will not have access to any of the Adobe softwares (like
Photoshop), and I doubt that your video editing system would run under Linux
either. So you most likely will only be able to use your computer to read
your email, browse the internet, and probably burn CDs... and even those
tools are mediocre IMHO compared to any decent MacOS or Windows software.
I bet you as soon as Linux will have the funcionality and user interface of
MacOS or Windows, it will have just as many viruses.
I would just stay with MacOS (although you didn't say but I assume you have
a Mac), kill off those viruses, and install some anti-virus software.

As an X linux user I have to admit that it is not
exactly friendly for people who are average computer
users. Or even good computer users. But you are
underestimating what Linux can do. Linux is the major
system that runs the net. You CAN do anything with
it, IF you are a computer head. It is the OS that
hackers and crackers use to get into ALL computer
systems. If you can understand how it works ALL
programming is up for grabs, all you have to do is
know how and that is the big one. It can run a pc and
it can run a mac. It will virtually take over your
system, the only major problem I had when I had Linux
is I could not get rid of it. Reinstalling windoze
took me 2 months and there is still a partition in it.

Agreed,
PC do some things well, Mac's do some things well, PC's have more problems
with viruses than Mac's, although there seems to be more software written
for PC's, which might explain why more viruses, more users learning how to
alter and control the machine, through the use of software. :-)
I know folks that have both in their houses/business, and use each for their
strengths.

one that gets the viruses while me and my iMac (current model) just dance
along. If I have a problem I always get help quickly. I know some people

Folks - before you go to far down the Linux/Mac/Windows is
evil/good/spotted/hyperventilated path......
The original poster said they where switching to a "MAC running
Linux(?)" What they most likely mean is a MAC running OSX which is a
BSD UNIX based operating system with all the user friendliness of the
Mac user interface on top of it. As to running Adobe SW - many (if not
most) serious graphics artists use Macs. Adobe SW is all available for
them and will run on Mac OSX. And yes windows is much more susceptible
to viruses than UNIX. Windows 98 and earlier where not protected
operating systems so were highly vulnerable. Windows 2000, NT and XP are
protected so viruses go after holes in things like Outlook. UNIX based
operating systems make it easy to separate the OS from the user. Now can
we talk about the OS to use on our foot powered wheels please?

Standard confusion. The PC is the hardware. Windows is the software.
And micro$ softwares are written to be sold and make money.
But on PC's you can be free (today!) of viruses by using free softwares.
Linux is one of those.
Now, I may have missed the start of the discussion but I have to alert
you that windows is the main target for viruses because it is used
by so many people. Why bother creating viruses if you hit only few
people? But Mac and linux and other addicts should not relax too much.
There are crackers in linux systems too. In Mac certainly also.

Myself I use Linux on a PC, for the freedom that it gives to mee,
but I am as carefull as I can to avoid intrusions of any type.
I have many reasons not to use windows. The main one is probably
openness. I want to be sure that I will be able to read some files
(mails, documents, recipes) in many years from now.
