at least for me..the first box i bought was 1958.
used it in my first kiln. it was fibre. loose.
still have about half of that box.
my recollection from the time is that it was invented
for atomic reactors. not the space shuttle for sure.
it was used on the first nose cones of rockets.
that is for sure.
heat shields really. i think from seeing them at acers
they were very dense.
others will have more stories.
