Actually, I didn't think you were being disagreeable in any way and thanks
for the vote of confidence. Nice of you to say that!

There are sometimes more ways than just one to approach and solve problems
with glazes. You've offered one that makes sense, and doesn't require any
calcining. Just a bit of reformulation. If the ball clay sub in this
glaze works that would be great and it very well could. I wouldn't be
opposed to using a ball clay in a glaze where small percentages of iron
were OK. Some glazes would require a "cleaner" clay though. Bearing this
in mind, it might be interesting to do some MOR testing of different
kaolins with additions of smectite and hectorite, aka vee gum T and
macaloid. It would be prudent to test bentonites too. My gut feeling is
that the MORs would rise with additions of these substances.
