Hello Jeremy and All,

It should be possible to put a window in a kiln, I've thought about doing it. With a double or tripple pane window similar to heat insulating windows used in buildings. First, an inside pane of fused silica glass or other hi-temp heat resistant glass like Vycor(R). Then the 2nd and 3rd panes with heat resistant glass such as Pyrex(R) brand, with about 2 in spacing between each pane.

Of course this would only work when the interior of the kiln is radiating in the visible light range. Any temperature below red heat would still require an external light source, and a pyrometer or wood splint to check the temperature.
