Philip Poburka asked, ">Would not the Isinglass or 'Mica' sheet melt in the
radiance of those
>temperatures a Kiln may be expected to reach?"
Phil,
Not in my experience. I made a peep plug using Muscovite collected near
Moscow, Idaho and fired it a few times to cone 5. The thin layer of
isinglass didn't flinch at the heat, but my fabrication of the plug was
defective and the window was just distorted enough that I still couldn't see
the cones through it so I gave up on it.
