Lela, maybe the guild should adopt a policy that only those who have taken such a workshop, or received some other form of instruction in kiln care, may be involved in shelf washing, loading, etc. Those who do not choose to take the workshop will just have to wait until the "experts" are available to load and fire. This inconvenience, and possible delay in getting one's pots fired, may convince everybody to participate. If you're not one of the "kiln people" and you find the kiln is full and your pots aren't in there, it would be a great incentive to get with the program. Or charge a penalty firing fee for those non-kiln people. There has to be some benefit for the people who are trying to do things right---and trying to make the equipment last longer, which is a saving to the whole guild!
