website sales?

Good morning again, and happy new year!

All this talk of home studios and home selling has gotten me thinking (and
the few things I've done that really turned out as I wanted them
to!--Already have people asking me to put them in their shops...)...

I don't have a good situation here to have a home SALES studio, though the
occasional "garage sale" out front idea is a possibility...problem here is
really that sometimes there's not even room for MY car on my street...old
homes are now broken up for apartments, here and there, and each apartment
comes with one or two or more cars...and we're not zoned for a
business...nuts.

BUT. I'm wondering about all these gorgeous websites ClayArt members
have...IS it possible/practical to sell from the 'web? If you have that
lovely digital camera and can put your new, available stuff up? DO any of
you make appreciable sales that way?

We discussed eBay sales briefly the other day, but wandered off to something
else--CAN you get what your work is worth there, or what you need for it?
Do you get bids?

So far I'm not hoping to go into production in a big way, just this burning
need to create. Gotta do SOMEthing with the stuff... After I manage to
make the things I really want for my own use and for gifts, that is...

Best--
Kate

I do not list my site as a 'selling site' I have always done it in the vein
of promoting my work, using the website as a tool to have my work seen, to
help me in contacting out of state galleries, and overseas contacts as well.
I don't usually list prices with my work online either. The funny thing that
has happened is that over the past couple years - when people have found my
site, and a piece they just love, they email me about it... at that point I
give the information that they want... and have sold many pieces that way. I
just closed out my books for 2001, and have found that my internet sales are
about 30% of my yearly income!
