Happy New Year! Can't believe it's 2002 already.

Does anyone know of a source where I can obtain small plastic pails with =
lids? Around the Toronto area, or North or East of Toronto?

I have tried Home Hardware and Home Depot here in Peterborough but all =
they sell are small pails with no lids. Pails around the size of the =
ones that drywall compound comes in.

I want to start mixing glazes for dipping now, but I'm not doing large =
enough quantity for the large pails.

Marianne - I recently located a great resource for good, sturdy, tightly
covered buckets for glaze--the bakery department of our grocery store.
Walked in, unnanounced last week and purchased ten perfect buckets with lids
for one dollar each. And guess what, they don't smell like pickles. Good
luck. jm

Thanks! I never even thought of trying a bakery department.

Hi Marianne (and everyone else). I go to the local Baskin-Robbins and Purdy's Chocolate stores - they have the tubs of icecream, and usually throw the empties out. They have lids,
and are larger than the icecream tub (4 litre/1 gallon) we buy at the store, but are not the size of drywall pails. In between the two.

Perhaps that would be OK for you - it works for me, I also don't make the bigger quantities of glaze (yet).

Marianne,
I got my pails for a dollar each at a Bulk Barn here in London. They sell
bulk foods and some come in pails (like margarine, peanut butter etc.). They
wash them out but I did an extra wash out just to be sure!
Or I have been told to ask a local restaurant for their used ones. I haven't
tried that yet but it could be worth a try.

Marianne,
Try your local bakery or the bakery section in grocery stores. They may have
the smaller buckets and they should be free.

Marianne;

I don't know if there is one in Toronto called "Mr Barrel'. If there is I
am sure you can find recycled barrels the size you wish for about $1.00
each. Failing that look up some food processors in your area, such as a
pickle factory or a salad processing for the food svcs industry. They use
these types of buckets. Failing that go to a Wine making shop. They will
be more expensive, however that lids are good fit.

Terrance.

Hi Marianne,
Also cafeterias in schools and such. Big Mayo users and pudding and all
the other junk I hated in school lunches. But Bennington's college
cafeteria made up for all that. The best desserts..
