an idea for sharing glazes....

Several potters in our area fire a ^6 oxidation and are always in search =
of the perfect glaze. Some glazes I hate, some one else loves. So we =
were talking and most of us had saved our 100 - 500 gram test batches of =
glaze. Last count I had 40 - 50 little containers with attached tiles & =
formulas. Like the old quilting bees of long ago we thought it would be =
fun to bring all our test batches to a meeting and bring as many test =
tiles of your clay body that you can carry and have; The Day of 1,000 =
Glazes. With 5 of us that mix test glazes pretty regularly the =
possibilities are endless. (You are going to have to keep really great =
records!!) Take your dipped tiles home and test them in your kiln, =
under your firing conditions. We will all get together a month later =
and compare notes. Most of us are working on the chemistry of glazing =
and I think this would help us all. Ok Clayarters what do you think???

I like it. In fact, I might adopt the idea for a cone 6 'group' that some
us are trying to put together locally. It beats the heck out of dumpting
all those test batches that you aren't using. Wanda

O that sounds like SO much fun, especially if you can mark the tiles so you
know you dipped this one in your green and Mary's purple. ;0)
