COLOR AND LINE: UNDERGLAZE & WAX INLAY DECORATING TECHNIQUES

The Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, IL (Chicago area) will
host a two day hands on workshop by Rimas VisGirda, Mar. 1 & 2 - 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. with a slide/lecture presentation Friday night at 7 p.m.

Workshop: Members: $100; Non-Members:$120; Lab Fee: $15
Slide and Lecture program: $5 for those not participating in workshop

The Lithuanian-born Illinois resident is a teacher and author whose extensive
work of the past 30 years is part of many selected collections in the United

Rimas VisGirda will present a hands-on workshop on Underglaze and Wax inlay
decorating techniques on March 1 & 2 at The Fine Line Creative Arts Center,
St. Charles, IL
On Friday, he will demonstrate how to use underglaze colors with blackwax
inlay to create black outlines and develop patterns, narrative images and
symbolism on ceramic forms. Time and attention will be given for students to
apply these techniques to greenware terra cotta tiles and to their own
greenware pieces. The tiles will be fired overnight.
On Saturday, the tiles will be discussed and Rimas will teach how to add
depth and texture using underglaze pencils for shading.
On Friday evening there will be a Slide and Lecture presentation of his work.

Workshop: Friday & Saturday, March 1 & 2 - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
$120 plus $15 lab fee
Slide and Lecture program: Friday, March 1 - 7 p.m.
$5 for those not participating in workshop

Rimas Visgirda will be giving a three day workshop at the Armory Arts
Center, West Palm Beach, Florida on Dec.16-18.

COLOR AND LINE
Topics to be covered in this workshop include line character, pattern
development, narrative imagery, underglazes, engobes, lusters and china
paints. Participants will produce a number of sample tiles for future
reference as well as individual pieces to finish during the course.
The workshop will be a hands-on experience, focusing on color decoration and
imagery with wax-resist and wax-inlay techniques for a black outline. A
number of line making techniques will be covered. Ceramic color will include
lusters, overglaze and underglazes.

Discuss will cover applications to tiles, vessels and three dimensional
forms. The workshop will include demonstrations and discussion of
applications to low fire, high fire and multi-fire processes.

Rimas Visgirda has exhibited his work and given workshops and lectured
internationally. He is represented in more than 30 public and private
collections. He has taught at colleges and universities on the west coast
and Midwest since 1973. In 1988 he visited the Soviet Union as a guest of
the USSR Union of Artists and has participated in a number of symposia in
Eastern Europe during the ensuing years.

This is an unique opportunity to study with a renown international artist.

DECALS, OVERGLAZES and LUSTERS and SILK-SCREEN PRINTING MADE EASY

March 22-26, 2020. San Marcos, TX

Learn to put images on silk screens using the photosensitive direct emulsio=
n process and make ceramic decals. Decals may be applied and fired onto cer=
amics as well as enameled metal and glass. Decals may also be applied to an=
y smooth surface as a decorative element. The same basic silk screen techni=
ques can be used for printing patterns onto fabrics, such as logos and desi=
gns onto t-shirts. Topics will include printing directly onto fired as well=
as unfired clay. Discussion and demonstration subjects include multi color=
printing, color separation, applications to high fire processes and hand c=
oloring B&W decals with overglazes and lusters. The course is designed to b=
e low-tech and uses no sophisticated apparatus allowing the participant to =
continue screening images at home or studio. Participants will create their=
own decals and receive a screen and squeegee for later use at their leisur=
e. Ceramic experience is not required.

Space is limited. On site camping available.
