I hate to admit it but I have LOTS of glaze formulas that I have collected
over the years from books, workshops, friends and the internet whose origins
are lost in the mist of time. In fact I have never formulated a glaze from
scratch; in a few instances I have modified some glazes. It has always been
my practice to share these glazes always pointing out that I don't remember
their origin. I have a few glazes that I obtained from one of our claybuds
on this listserve who asked that I not give them away and I have honored
that request. One of the things I have loved about the clay community is
that it is wonderfully sharing. I do see the reason behind wanting to keep
something proprietary and now I feel somewhat conflicted. I wonder how many
others on this listserve have never formulated a glaze from scratch and who
share their favorite formulas, whose origins are long forgotten, with
others. Is this a practice that should be curtailed?
