It seems as if all potters eventually come back to the basic Shino recipe of
Feldspar with some clay added.
The clay-glaze-kiln relationship comes back into focus. A homecoming of
sorts.
It lets the palate settle down and enjoy the subtleties that a nice long hot
soak in a kiln can produce. A break from all the curry-like ingredients that
we've been using in the glaze, and lets the fire come from the kiln. A bit
more of an honest relationship.
And then lightening strikes the outhouse-- what if we added a little more
alumina? or salt? or....? Well so much for the honest relationship,
