Hello all. I've been inundated with requests for my pictures on the
kiln modification, so am building a page that will be graciously
hosted by Valerie of Seeds Art Gallery. I'll post the steps that I
took with pictures and some hints I found the hard way. Honestly,
there's not much, so it'll be a small page, but maybe it'll give
others the help and support they want doing it.
In the meantime, I have a ^6 glaze fire in right now, and am using my
dual channel thermoprobe to take periodic readings in the kiln,
outside the kiln, and between the lower (factory) and upper (homemade)
kiln lid. I'll also take some readings in between the kaowool fiber
and the IFB for fun. What I need is for some trooper with an unaltered
electric kiln, preferrably about the size of a Skutt 1027, who
wouldn't mind taking some measurements during a firing for me so that
I can through up comparisons on the modification webpage. I'd like, at
least, surface measurements of the steel jacket (surfaces are hard w/o
a special probe, I know, just get as close as you can get), kiln top
surface, kiln bottom surface and (again, if possible) top and bottom
of the kiln interior (to see any temperature gradient). Alternatively,
if there's someone relatively close to Charleston, SC- I could
possibly get with them and bring wire thermocouples and instrument
over to test top and bottom kiln temperatures.
These temps won't be posted as soon as the modifications, but
hopefully they'll be up soon.
