Dear Brenda,
when I first started with my ancient Cromartie Kiln (manufactured in 1962)
not knowing anything at all the book which really helped me was
"Electric Kiln pottery" by Emmanuel Cooper
it was published in 1982, so don't know if it is still in print, but for me
it has become a sort of bible and I still use it today.
