Geez, Tony C., my favorite full-time potter is joining the
ranks of the part-timers.
New clothes. He'll probably show up at the Clayart Room
looking like a Mel-clone, in a tweedy professor's herringbone
sportcoat with leather elbow patches, puffing on a pipe.
Before you know it he'll probably be approved for a new car
loan and be driving a red Honda CR-V to work everyday.
Sheila will have supper waiting when she hears, "Honey,
I'm home!" after a tough day at the college.

Tony will have a new-found appreciation for teaches because
of this "little reward".
Check that fly and know 'em dead (and avoid volunteering to
be on committees at all costs).

David H. advised his good bud, Tony, not to
volunteer for any committees in his new teaching job, as well as a timely
reminder to check that fly. I'm addressing the first part of this
statement...... you guys are on your own for the rest of it since the
protocol alludes me.

Tony, you may look around and see what committees are active and presently
being formed ..... if that happens at your school (note, please, "Your
School," forever in our minds now as "Tony's School"... congratulations.).
If you see one that intrigues you and IF..... after checking around to see
if volunteering is "done" at Sheridan .... it's possible you could do better
by yourself to volunteer and get it over with. Many teacher contracts have
a seldom discussed clause concerning the performance of "adjunct duties."
The only way to avoid the ones you really do NOT want
is to have a "prior committment." In other words, in many teaching
situations, volunteer or get assigned. "Getting assigned" is never pretty.
Note, though, the weasel phrases about
looking around/checking around ... until you have reconnoitered, I fully
agree with David ..... don't volunteer.

Avoid hoisting that petard, check around, be your charmin' best, make your
way slowly ...
(right, sure...)....... and have fun.
