Hello, To attach the goblet bowl to the wheel head without using the three
clay lugs just wet the rim of the bowl and center it on the the head the
suction will hold the bowl on the head. Use the ringed grooves on the head as
a guide to center the bowl, if you need a smaller ring use a pencil to
scribe an appropiate size ring.

Dale, me too please!! One reason I got into pottery was to learn this very
thing...I've made a few goblets now but none of them are quite what I'm
aiming for. I usually make the stem and bowl separately, then join the two
components--semi-successful, but slightly off-center or with a bit of an
unwanted angle. Your way sounds like it might be the answer.

Anyone else have another way?

How do you fasten the upturned bowl so it doesn't shift as you throw the
stem? I use three soft lugs of clay, and butt them up against the
leather-hard bowl once I have it centered, then spread the back out against
the batt so they'll hold steady...works when I do it right.

Any advice appreciated here, too. The wonderful new how-to book I mentioned
a few weeks ago doesn't have goblets in it, though the process for throwing
knobs sounds about the same...

Best--
Kate
