suggestions?

Hi to all again,
Let me further explain that I am interested in the Olympic Torchbearer gas
kiln for high fire -- cone 10 oxi./reduction firings. The reason I'm
considering a kiln of this size is because I want to use it at my house --
in a residential area. Also, not yet being a full time potter, I don't have
the production worries that most full time potters have, in that I don't
have to produce a large number of pieces at a time. I am hoping this type
kiln will be small enough to be unobtrusive to neighbors, yet allow me to do
Cone 10 reduction firing. Does anyone have any comments on the Olympic
Torchbearer? If not, does any one have a recommendation for a kiln that
would fit my needs? Thanks. Celeste in Montgomery, AL

suggestions?

I have been firing the Olympic Torchbearer kiln for about two years. It is my first kiln and after a bit of time I have come to understand it. Being an updraft it is prone to cool spots. But, with a little experimentation and attention, you can load it to minimize the impact. I have been successful in getting less than a half cone difference between top and bottom. The most critical place for loading and placement is the top. Make sure you use a top shelf to create a baffle about 1 inch from the lid. Buy a couple 1/2 inch shelves 17 inch diameter to use at the top. This direct a large portion of the flame back down for another pass before exiting.

It is compact. A little taller than it's electric counter part. It is reasonably portable. My biggest complaint often is I wish it were bigger. But then ...

Good Luck
