How hard is your water?

After the glaze fire it has little bloat bubbles here and their, no bigger than the end of a pen. The fresh porc. out of the bag never bloats. Bisque slow, 12 - 18 hours. Any ideas? Would the algae contaniminate the porc.? Thanx for anyone that would like to put their 2 cents in!

I don't have an answer, just the same question. The ^6 porcelain I got from
the distributer was hard. I added water to the bag, let it sit a few days
then wedged it. Everything seemed normal until the glaze firing at ^6 in my
electric kiln. When I took the finished pieces out they were bloated. It
looked like medicine capsules imbedded here and there under the clay. A new
style decoration perhaps?

Dear Sandy Miller,

Are you removing the algae before you reclaim the clay or are you =
wedging the stuff in?

If it is not scraped away I would imagine that any near to the surface =
of the clay might cause some gasing but not enough to cause bloating.

If you can see bubbles in the glaze rather than pimples pushing up =
through the surface, I don't think that is bloating.

Best regards,

Ivor.
