I bought a L&L J230, I think it was in 1976. I still use it all the
time, mostly for bisque but I used it for several years to cone 8. It
had a problem with the kiln sitter the first time I fired it and an arc
was created that melted some wires in the kiln sitter. I contacted the
company and they offered to send another or fix but I decided then that
kiln sitters were evil devices and that I could watch it better by eye.
Well that was fine for several years until one night while friends were
visiting and we were partaking of, I will not say, I fell asleep and
woke up to a very hot kiln. Well pots were very well done, shelves
warped to the shape of the well done pots but walla, a few new elements
and it worked fine then and still does. I love the L&L and btw have no
interest in the company. Folks at L&L, I bought my J230 new from Salem
Pottery Supply ran by Melvin Nida in Salem, West Virginia. He does no
longer sell pottery equipment I don't think. Just my two cents.
