Dear Gary -

I appreciate your comments about your old L&L kiln (25 years and counting!)
I can tell you from our perspective as a manufacturer that we worry about
the kiln sitters as well. In fact, although many potters are suspicious of
the newer electronic controls, they have actually been less prone to
overfiring than the kiln sitters. We periodically get calls about an
overfired kiln with a kiln sitter. Rarely (if ever - or at least I don't
remember) do we hear of that sort of catastrophic failure with one of our
DynaTrol controls. The thermocouples do drift and you can get slight over
or under firing but they seem more reliable from the perspective of serious
overfiring. If you think about it so much can go wrong with a kiln sitter:
stuff can get inside it, there is a whole mechanical mechanism that has to
function properly, the cone can get way out of calibration by certain
chemical reactions, the rod can get stuck. I'd be interested in hearing
comments on this question from other Clayart readers. It is a whole subject
that should be explored in greater detail. By the way we specifically warn
users not to trust either the kiln sitter or an automatic control - the
best thing is to be there when it is supposed to go off. That is actually
easier to accomplish with an automatic control such as the DynaTrol because
of the Delay Start feature.

Steve,
Take a look at the Clayart archives and look at the response in reference to L&L kiln issues.
My name is Kim Lemonakis in Orlando Fl. with 2 of your Dyna Kilns that I am sure came defective from your factory.
Are you coming to Orlando in Febuary to the Ceramic trade show? Maybe I can catch up with you there. I might possibly be able to wheel the kilns down to your booth at the show. The studio is located right around the corner.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Kim
