Not to split hairs here but,
I thought that actually Otto refused to sell the recipe, selling the
Japanese envoys only the pots themselves. At least thats what I remember
from the CM article... not that it makes much difference, but I did love
that one! OOh those pale sumptuous glazes!

I actually visited with Otto last May, when he told me the story of his
Buttercup Yellow Glaze, and that the japanese come to him to buy his work
and NO! he did not and would not sell them the formula! That is from his
mouth, honest.
By the way, if any of you happen to be around Ojai, CA, do search him out.
He has regular open studio/gallery hours, and the road to him is filled with
the fragrance of the orange groves on either side (sunkist farms). He is a
delight to be with, warm, open and friendly and I was happy to bring home
with me a small affordable yellow vase, that was a "second". Any Gallery in
Ojai, can give you directions to his studio.
He exemplifieds all that is wonderful about potters....and it is with great
joy that he will take you thru his studio and gallery. He is well into his
80's, I believe, and still going strong. Go OTTO!
He is "what i want to be when i grow up!"
