I believe what they called "organic iron" is called "iron bacteria" by =
our well "experts". It is a bacteria that likes waters that has a high =
iron content. It cause a slimy rust coloured film on the inside of the =
pipes and inside the tolet tank, smells like rotten eggs and is =
supposedly more difficult to kill than most bacteria in wells. The usual =
treatment is to introduce something at the source(well) to kill the =
bacteria(bleach) and open the water system(tap, etc) to ensure the =
bleach is throughout the system and the bacteria in the lines is also =
killed. Then let sit..I forget how long.....=20

Then the hard part, try to get the bleach/chlorine out of your system. =
This is very difficult in shallow wells(usually 3ft by 25-30 ft) as they =
hold large volumes of water. Aeration with neutralize the =
chlorine(garden sprayer duct taped open, spraying back into the well for =
several hours) . With drilled wells, they don't hold as much volume and =
you can flush by running the water for awhile. ***Be careful** If =
you have high iron, you also likely have a iron filter, some filter =
mediums apparently do not like chlorine. How to get bacteria out of your =
filter without treating it??? No one ever explained that part. Part of =
me thinks it is a out for the filter companies, but ?????

Two years ago I found several web sites which are long =
forgotten....search for iron, well, water treatment etc.=20
