Kim -
L&L Kilns do have very large advertisements in the ceramic trade magazines.
I've been finding these informative posts very interesting. We're needing a
new kiln in the near future, and anything I can learn from the experts on
the matter BEFORE I invest is greatly appreciated.

Kim perhaps you should try reading the posts before you slam someone...Steve
was replying to a post that I had made regarding L&L products...Maybe you
would prefer to be kept in the dark regarding advances in technology? I
vote to keep us informed.

Tommy -

Thanks for the plug. There is quite a bit of synergy between the two
companies. It is a very different experience engineering "consumer"
products like ceramic kilns vs custom industrial furnaces. Some of the
lessons from L&L Kiln in finishing, and even some of the experience in
technical details like thermocouples helps our industrial company. On the
other hand the supurb engineering resources from L&L Special are available
at the kiln company. We recently designed a special furnace with over 20
zones of control, +/- 2 deg C, 6 feet cubed, with superfast heat up and
cooldown. Talk about an expensive toy!

Steve,
I really appreciate your feed back and input on thermocouples, but when you
decide to promote your products on this venue I question your motivation.
Maybe you should be like all other kiln manufactures and pay for your
advertisements in ceramic trade magazines.
Sincerely,
Kim Lemonakis.

This really seems a little unfair... Steve responded to questions from members
of this forum, he participated in a technical discussion about thermocouples
which (and when the conversation gets very far at all from bronze age
technology
I sort of glaze over) seems to have grown out of a conversation about how
various
kilns were wired and was going on at the same time as a discussion about
cones vs computerized controlers... I read Steve's post mentioning the 20 zone
special kiln as being not so much about promotion as about a specific case
where the special needs of a customer allowed the company to learn something
which they could, in turn, apply to the manufacture of "off the rack" kilns...

L&L advertises in the ceramics magazines just like all of the other
manufacturers,
Steve has simply chosen to make himself accessible to us, and to participate in
discussions about kiln technology. I, for one, appreciate his input (for
all that I
don't really understand all of it) and may very well take it into account
when the
time comes for me to buy a new kiln... I will certainly know more about
what I'm
buying after the past few weeks on ClayArt than I would have before.

Thank you everyone for these discussions, they may be over my head, but
they're gradually making sense and I can always go back to the archive and
re-read them as I learn more.

Best Wishes,

Andi.

To all =96

Thanks for the support from everyone! No, it is true, I don=92t work for
free. As one of my cranky uncles once said =96 I don=92t need the practice. =
I
did think it would be nice if the pottery community understood that L&L is
more than just a kiln company. We have an interesting history and unusual
resources that at I am taking the time to share. There is no obligation to
read my messages. It can be both self-serving and informative. Need I be
too virginal about making the distinction?
