The 'Eureka' moment on how to roll coils came to me years back, during a
workshop with Susannah Denet,
a wonderful woman and a traditional Hopi potter.
What do people often do when you say 'roll out a coil?
They roll clay back and forth.
Susannah said to just roll it one way, forward , forward....roll it
away from you
pick it up, set it near you again then start rolling it forward, forward
again.
don't ever roll it back toward you, or i.e. ,roll one direction, not
two.
Maybe this is something all of you already know!
It really made all the difference for me , who probably would have
gone on
see saw fashion forever! thanks Susannah!
