I'd like to add an unsolicited endorsement to this announcement of
Richard Aerni's workshops. I attended one a few years ago at the Lees
Arts Center in Arlington, VA and found it educational and inspirational.

Richard's technique for throwing very large pots is one that I've never
seen elsewhere. He does a great job of explaining it. He makes it look
like something we could all do. His attention to detail in his pots sets
an example for us all. And I love his glazes! He's particularly generous
in sharing how he does what he does.

IMHO he's entitled to bang his own drum and toot his own horn because his
creations are truly magnificent- in all details and in overall
appearance. The man is a master well worth watching! Plus he's a
personable individual (with an great sense of humor) and I hope the hole
he's slinking back into (as referenced at the end of his email) is
elegant and comfortable.

I highly recommend this workshop to potters of all levels. At the VA
workshop, potters with a wide range of experience attended, and virtually
everyone felt it was interesting and inspirational. It's even better that
the price of the Indiana workshop is so reasonable.

I and two of my students attended a Richard Aerni lecture, reception, and
exhibition at the Creative Arts Center in Dallas, TX in the spring of '98.
My students also attended the workshop that accompanied the show. Michael
Obranovich organized the activities.

I've always been a big fan of Richard's work and was quite impressed with
his studio experiences that he shared in his slide presentation. I
encourage anyone who might be interested in this workshop opportunity to go.

BTW, Richard, if you ever want to come back the Texas our college has the
gallery space for an exhibition, studio space for a workshop, and the funds
for your honorarium including travel, food, and lodging.

Guess I'll chime in on this thread, and urge any
nearby enough to catch Richard's workshop to go for it.
I have no experience of one of his workshops - though I'm
workin' on it, I'm workin' on it. I HAVE seen a lot of his
work, and it is both strong and elegant; his method of making
is unique, I believe. So go, have a good time, get some
inspiration. It's just the right time of year for all
those things.
