I've been working on my new and improved website. I need help before I throw
the computer. Would someone who has used Adobe Page Mill PLEASE contact
me??? I'm using version 3.0. The problem is in saving the frames. Everytime
I change a page, i find that it has changed every other page to. I know
that's what great about frames, but how can you create different pages? I've
redone it a million times.

Sarah - I have, but don't use, pagemill 3.0 - will take a look and tell you
what's wrong if I can.

do you want to send me a direct email address so w can speed this up?

Frames in any other software isn't really hard, but you do need to do some
planning - I usually advise the people I train to story board it.

your best bet then is to see the frames as a container for the pages you
want to show. each frame should be named -0 something simple like body,
navbar, top - whatever works for you.

a typical set up might be a static frame on left side of screen which acts
as a border, and where you might put the links. If you have 5 pages to
show, you would have 5 links in your static border, each one telling the
browser to load the relevant page into the frame called whatever.

without checking (which I will do later), it sounds as if you might be
changing some template, rather than creating individual pages.

if you want, bundle up the pages and send them to me.....

cheers

Richard

Sarah-

I am using PageMill and began putting images together for a site to primarily show
student's works. It was easy when I put several pages up to sell a friend's RR
over a year ago but I didn't use frames then and just began working with them
enough to know I still don't need them. I went to Adobe's site for info and found
they no longer produce PageMill and offer GoLive for $99 as an upgrade to any
version of PageMill. I'm tempted but..don't really have time or interest in a
complicated site. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Keep in mind the frames are saved separately from the page. Make and test your
links to the separate frames. Replacing a frame on a page using "insert new" under
file, be sure the replaced frame was linked to another frame on the page so you
will be able to call it up from somewhere on the page.

Under file, create a new page, opt/click and drag your new frames for the page and
before you put anything on the page, under file, "save frameset as" or "save
everything" and name it set1.html. Create additional pages the same way, naming
them set2 etc. until there are several pages to enter pics and info on. Drag from
your previous completed pages onto the new pages with the elements you want to
place. In the inspector you will notice the program names each frame you create
and each will need to be saved to your site folder as it was named by the program
when you "save frameset as". Open the "set#" page with all frames or open the
individual frame to edit. In either case the other will be updated when either is
saved. I try to keep names and numbers together to keep better track of files as I
work on them. The service provider you upload to may need a home page name
conformed to there system and the previous named "set" pages can be changed to
agree.

At this early stage, I'm staying with tables to keep it simple. Later, when I'm
ready to include more text, I will use frames. Tables adjust to the size of the
images which are being reduced to between 120 and 180 pixels for 8 to 12 images
per page. Later I will link details for some of the work, but, for now, I'm still
adjusting the sizes of the first 95 images I've selected to use. I just started
the project last week and hope to have the first few pages up on Sunday. I expect
some linking woes from past experience.

argg, no luck for me, i tried reloading several images, but it didn't seem
to help, oh well, i'll wait for tech support to arrive tomorrow.
As for your site I sure wish i'd had you for a teacher when I was in high
school. I went to a school where you had your choice of ART I, II, III, or
IV. and our teacher was a big fan of worksheets. I can't comment on the
speed of loading, since my connection tonight is a blinding 600 bytes per
second. But that's what i get for living in the woods. All the pictures
loaded excpet the bottom middle one. Andy10. Good luck with yours, wish me
luck with mine. If worse comes to worse i'll drive 45 minutes and let my
network admin. download it at the ISP headquarters. It's great to go local
sometimes.

Mark,

Making a website was my winter project last year. It was
both a lot of fun and at times exasperating. See the
results at:

Does anybody out there run a web server on their own computer using a
DSL or cable modem instead of using a hosting service such as Yahoo,
Earthlink, etc.?

If so, I would like to pick your brain a little. If you know why I
can't, or shouldn't, do this I would like to know that too.

Off list is probably more appropriate for this discussion.

Thanks...
