fine grog question

I won't include my recipe, for fear of mirth at my expense, but I have
pretty good luck using a talc/feldspar ratio of 1:5 to get a nice vitrified
body at cone 6. Question: Someone came with these huge hydrangea leaves
and they all wanted serving plates, Iguess finished, about 9". They all
slumped and made pancakes of themselves, that hadn't happened before. So I
started adding the grog from the toilet factory, which is about as fine as
talc...amazing stuff. I have been using around 3.5 to 4%. It helps. But
what percentages of really fine grog do any of you use in your
porcelain/type bodies at that cone range? I'd like to know if you use more
or less. I have trouble with wet cracking, since I don't have a de-air pug
mill or anything,
and just mix/age if I can and use. The fermenting helped, but it stank so
bad, that I think it drove off a few students. So, that's out. Anyway,
what percent grog? I know it depends, but this stuff is so fine, that I
want to use enough to do some good, but not be overdoing it. Thought there
might be a guideline. AND, while I'm asking, would I cut down my 305m
silica from
25% because of the grog? That could help plasticity a little...I know that
this is vague, but any guidelines? Melinda
