frit substitution question

updated thu 31 jan 02

I would like to make a very white plastic earthenware clay (cone 04). I
purchased Conrad's Ceramic formulas book. His "C1 White Talc Body" calls for
Frit #2106. I can't find that frit. Is there a good substitution? Another
clay recipe also calls for Kaolin. What would be the whitest most plastic
throwing kaolin that would be good for low fire? Sapphire clay? Grolleg?

I just made a batch using EPK and am waiting for it to mature before
testing. I wonder if the other two kaolins would be just a good...or even
better. I love "Tom Coleman" cone 10 clay because it is so white. I wonder
what they use? I heard that Australian "Southern Ice" is even whiter. I
would like to make a low fire clay that has the same colors as coleman or
southern ice. Any suggestions?

thanks
Susan
