James, I noticed that several of the cone 6 recipes in this book are the
exact same recipe with different names.

Our library has acquired a copy of this book. It has, what
appears to me, a couple of errors. I wonder if this has been
noticed by others or if I am wrong.
On pages 107 and 108 are the recipes for two ^04 Bead
(crawl) glazes. The glaze on p108 is named Bermuda Green
Bead, but has for colorant 8% Rutile. This glaze contains
25% magnesium carbonate. The glaze on page 107 is named Bead
Glaze and the accompanying pictures show a tan crawl glaze,
but the colorant is Bermuda Green mason stain.
More worrisome for me is the 25% Manganese Carbonate,
instead of the more likely Magnesium Carbonate. This might
be a serious error given the toxicity of the Manganese
Carbonate.
The ^10 glaze recipe on page 127 named Joe's Green looks
identical to the ^10 Val Cushing glaze on page named 132 VC
Blue Green Copper Matte.
Am I mistaken, or are these just more examples of sloppy
editing that seems to prevail in the "rush to publish"
publishing industry of today?
Have any of the members of this list seen any other
potentially serious errors in other books commonly used by
potters and ceramists?

Greetings all,
I just got a very beautiful book on Richard Bresnahan's work, "Body of
Clay, Soul of Fire" and would recommend it to anyone interested in
woodfiring. HOWEVER.... when you fire your new woodkiln, I would
recommend that only go up to 2500 F, not all the way to 2500 C (4532 F)
as is shown in the appendix (time temp chart pgs 220-223). Might cause
some slumping and warping, or bloating.
Sloppy editing.
Other than that it's a fine book and I'm glad I bought it.
NASA crashed a spaceship into Mars over something like this. Mixup
between miles and kilometers. I'm glad to know better.

Dear Paul Lewing=20

You say <the exact same recipe with different names.>>

I suggest, for a suitable fee, you offer your services as a proof reader =
and editor. I would watch out for this sort of thing in any other =
forthcoming books.

Best regards,

Ivor.
