My girlfriend/spouse/partner and I built a MFT for Cone 10 Reduction as =
two know nothing beginners..It is doable and easy, but 2 days? We had to =
many runs to the hardware store for 2 days.
So here is a bit of advise and thoughts if you want it to go trouble =
free in 2 days. MAKE SURE the floor is flat!!!! or have a plan for =
dealing with that. If you have lots of time you can fiddle with =
levelness, but if you are rushing to build a PERMANEMNT kiln...You don't =
want uneven and you can't afford the time.=20
I assume the roof will be IFB and not hard brick?.....not sure if a hard =
brick flat top roof is possible?? Nils??
And lastly I assume you have played with hard brick kilns and realize =
hard bricks don't stack as nice as IFBs. I have never played with =
salt/soda, does is self heal holes/leaks or does it eat away at any =
unevenness?=20
Good luck...It was such a thrill when it worked.=20
I know this doesn't apply to you but for Clayart. For car kilns, try to =
make the door supports(wings) as flat as possible. I spent almost as =
much time fiddling with the door as building the kiln. Took it apart 4 =
times.=20
Again thanks for all the advise we got from Clayart folks on the =
chimney, roof, shelf heights, and MFTs.... You made it possible.=20
One day that web site on MFT construction will go up... one day....
