We had a teenager using a Lockerbie motorized kichwheel step onto the sill
turning flywheel when , not thinking before he dismounted pot on bat, and
the foot continued with the flywheel and he was under the table turning
thump thump about getting a nasty noggin banging before the wheel stopped.I
had been very hesitant to use flywheel kickwheels with the public since.

Has there ever been a potter who has NOT taken a wheelhead ride, just to see if
he/she could stay centered? It's such an obvious temptation. Absolutely NOT
recommended, but fun!

At one time we had three "Leach type" treadle bar kick wheels in the workshop.
No one was allowed to step onto flywheels, EVER!
No polite "Tut, tut, naughty!", more on the lines of a snarled "Use the friggin'
provided
platform!!!"
Note: I have duck's disease & I don't use the step up.
Trainees did have a tendency to develop a facial twitch after a few weeks in the
workshop.
Good! It indicated to me that their subconscious was whispering to them,
"If I damage equipment, or damage myself it will cut down production."
