Subject: further new (to me) kiln question
Hi there:
I had one response (thanks TB) about my used skutt kiln. I have one more,
rather important question.
I put the 2 (there are only 2) switches on low. The kiln started to hum
(buzz) as per my other (PSH) kiln, but the humming didn't seem to be in
cycles. It simply seemed to be the same pitch, as if I had put the kiln
onto full or high. Is this normal for skutts? Do they simply take less
power at low than at medium or high? Or is this an indiction of a problem.
Ok, lots of questions for one question but I'd prefer to ask questions
and look dumb, rather than plunge in and hurt myself or my equipment.

Hi, Sam - here's how Dan explains our Skutt, which also doesn't cycle:
Two elements are controlled by one switch; on low, they work in series
(half voltage); on medium, one element is off and one is on full; on high,
they're in parallel (full power). Repeat for second switch . I don't
understand electricity at all, so I'm just repeating this verbatim; it's all
Greek to me!
