Hello Rikki,

Actually I think you could get away with the following.

PC STUFF

Find a friend with the spell checker working, or with MSWORKS or MSOFFICE
installed, then copy the files in the subdirectory below from their machine to
yours, on a Zip Disk, or CDR (remember to remove the read only attribute after
bring them over from CD), or similar.

The spell check function is part of a installation of MSWORKS or MSOFFICE, the
spell check files are installed to

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

There is also a key inserted into the System Registry that tells the OS where
to go look for the spell checker when needed.

Found this at this website.

Missing Spell-Check in Outlook Express and Other Programs

This is if you have the spell-checking lexicons and .dlls installed in the
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof folder.

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools

Check the "SharedFilesDir" under the main entry for the above. It should read:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared
If you are missing the trailing backslash, you will not be able to get spell
check (and some other MS Office items). Add it to correct.
===========================
Or, get a external spell checker, that runs in the background and does your
spell check. One that came up in a search on Google.com

AutoSpell 5.43
($14.95)
AutoSpell is a spell checker that can be used in the following online
applications: AKMail, Eudora, CompuServe, Outlook Express E-mail and
news-reader for Internet Explorer 4.x, Microsoft Exchange, MS Mail & News
E-mail and news-reader for Internet Explorer 3.x, Netscape Navigator or
Netscape Communicator, Netcom Netcomplete, Pegasus, Wordpad, Windows Notepad,
Notepad, Editpad, and Superpad. AutoSpell is installed as an add-on, and runs
on the background when you start any of the above applications. When you send
or save the composed message, AutoSpell will pop up the misspelled words
default setting, as an option, you can set the preference to check spelling
manually

Or if you are on XP as your OS, and your spell check stopped working, perhaps
this is the problem.

How To: Fix spell checking in Outlook Express 6

If you are running Windows XP and are also using Microsoft Office 97, you may
find that spell checking does not work in Outlook Express 6.0. When you try to
spell check a message, you receive the message "an error occurred whilst the
spelling was being checked". The cause of this problem is a missing file which
Outlook Express requires.

Solution

Obtain a copy of the file csapi3t1.dll and place it in the folder "Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof".

Copies of this file may be extracted from the file mailnews.cab in an Internet
Explorer 5.0 or 5.5 distribution set, the file win98_27.cab on a Windows 98 CD,
or the file Win_10.cab on a Windows Me CD.

A copy may also be downloaded by clicking on this link.

MAC STUFF

Or if you are on a Macintosh

Maybe one of these programs might help you get over the speelling woe's.

Hope this helps.
