"Once Around" (1991, starring Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter) had Danny
Aiello as the patriarch of a tight knit family who retired and his family
thought he needed a hobby and gave him a pottery wheel ... I seem to
remember some funny scenes of him trying to learn on his own ... he finally
produces a large lopsided pasta bowl, if I remember right...

Yup, and Always was a remake of a pretty cool 1940's movie called A Guy
Named Joe.

Once Around is on TV from time to time... it's not that great a movie.
Dreyfuss plays an obnoxious type A salesman who ends up having a heart
condition and dying in a wheelchair out on the ice watching Hunter skate
around. Very odd.

I think there was a short pottery scene in the movie "Alice's Restaurant".
Seems to me an Asian-looking girl Arlo was dating was throwing a pot in a
loft (of the church?). Guess I'll have to rent it and see.
