Dear clay buds,
Recently I remember seeing a post about a new clay art magazine. Has
anyone received it? How is it? How do I subscribe to it?

PS I am a lurker, but really enjoy the posts. I appreciate how much
effort some of you put into answering questions. It is a really
valuable tool for a lot of us. Thank you so much.

That 'metal stuff' was in an ad from Sculpt Nouveau,
a bronze casting services and supply outfit. Ron Young
is affiliated with them, or owns it, or something.

I don't know this product specifically, but it appears
to be one of a type of product used to simulate bronze
patinas on non-bronze surfaces. Typically, it's a two-
part process, starting with a coating of copper-bearing
paint, then following with chemicals which affect the
copper in the paint layer in a manner similar to the
way bronze-patina chemicals affect the copper content
of the bronze.

Janet - I requested one, too, and I think they were including Canada, but
maybe it's just taking a little longer to get over the border . I'm
interested to see what the others are talking about.

I got one. It was a raggety mess due to no plastic nor paper wrapper. the pages
were stuck together. there was a nice article about barbara brown in it .haven't
read much else yet.

Fine Art Ceramics arrived at this household about a week or two ago. A
quick critique: Not a lot of photos. Good information on business aspect
but I wonder when they will run out of things to say. Most of the ads are
identical to CM although there was an interesting ad for metal coatings and
patinas. I want to try that. Don't know if I'll subscribe. I would like
to see the next one to get a better feel of where they are going with this.

Got my copy of the new 'Fine Art Ceramics' mag this week.
Lots of interesting 'professional-oriented' articles. I
like the emphasis. The proofreading seems about on par
with the old 'ArtCalendar', though. The articles were
mostly OK, but the call for articles was riddled with
a bushel of grammatical errors. (I don't mind that in an
e-mail post, but this is supposed to be a pro publication,
not a fanzine.) They also made it surprisingly difficult
to find the subscription info, at the bottom of the masthead.
No tear-out postcards, in a new magazine? The paper quality
seemed a little flimsy, too. The photo quality was fine,
and I wasn't expecting (and don't want it to be) another
slick coffee-table magazine, but it got pretty mangled in
shipping. Perhaps heavier cover stock next time? Or the
brown-paper jackets once used by CM? Or just a sticker to
hold the open edge shut?

Still, I'd like to see the venture succeed, and I expect
that these bugs will get ironed out in time. Can I find
future issues on bookstore magazine racks, or must I
commit to a subscription in order to see more?

Was that article on Barbara Brown written by our own
claybud Charles Moore? If so, congratulations!
