"You probably don't realize how much time you spend adjusting the speed as
you throw...faster to center, sloooooow to finish the rim....Tommy"

I do think that's the problem, off and on motion, and I do throw w/o
changing speed much but I haven't mastered trimming at one speed...that's
when I get the pain...and actually some ideas folks have submited have made
sense like pitching the angle of the chair towards the wheel.

I would like to make a knee controlled petal but it would have to have a
spring return action like a sewing machine cuz I can't "unpetal" with my
knee. Can we get a petal with a return spring? I have a CI HP wheel which
I just love.

I do appreciate all these ideas...one more question after reading
them....how do others sit, with or w/o a back to the seat...a chair or
stool??? I really like a height adjustable due to severe shortness of
stature and sometimes I need a lift up to do tall pots.

I have a strong back...can lift and stack whole 50# boxes of clay...and for
a dumpy old lady that's OK. It really is all in my hip and leg but it could
be pinching something in my back. I will talk to Dr but these ideas from
the experience of others really gives me some trouble shooting ideas.
