Dear Lexxy: I don't know if this ever made it into
print anywhere, but John Glick swears by throwing
standing up, after some pretty gruesome back surgery
(actually, I think anytime they take a knife to you
it's Gruesome). He was one of the Simultaneous
Demonstrators at NCECA 2000 in Denver. He did the
whole demostration with his wheel raised up, while
Janet Mansfield & Julia Galloway threw standard
seating. He showed the stresses we wheel throwers
place on various parts of our bodies, and the
advantages of throwing standing. Ceratainly sometime
to consider - I am still the bad girl who throws
scrunched down over my wheel, and sometimes I have a
hard time immediately standing full length after a
long haul throwing or trimming. And the chicken arms
ache...I see there's an article in Clay Times by John
(on back trouble, 1999(Nov/Dec):5)
