advice about a throwing wheel

Hello, All:

I'm looking for some advice about buying an electric throwing wheel. I'm a
beginning hobbyist, and can't invest a lot of money in the wheel. Also,
because I live in Costa Rica, the cost of shipping and customs duties will
add 50%-70% to the base price of the wheel. Therefore both price and weight
are extremely important. (To answer the obvious question, there are no
electric wheels for sale anywhere in Costa Rica and all the potters here say
you just have to buy them in the US and have them shipped.)

At first I thought I'd get a Kemper Clay Devil, but now that I realize the
wheel head is only 8" and there are no nibs for batts, I don't think it'll
work for me. The price was certainly right -- under $400 -- as was the
weight -- about 20 lbs. Customer service at Dick Blick said that the head
was too small for any of their kits to put nibs on the wheel.

Now I'm looking at the Creative Arts Clay Boss that's a little under $600.00
with much higher specs and longer guarantee than the Clay Devil. Don't know
the weight yet, and I've written to find out.

So my questions are: Do any of you have experience with CA's Clay Boss and
is it good or bad? Also, do any of you have any recommendations for any
other wheel in a price range of $600 or less?

Thanks so much.
