Dear John Stromnes,=20

I personally would steer clear of anything containing either Cadmium or =
Selenium compounds. They are poisons so why take the chance.

Working on the "Kiss" principle, the easiest solution is to do a high =
temperature reduction of a copper glaze with a small proportion of =
cobalt added to flavour the red. If you do some line blends working on =
ten percent increments of the Copper carbonate to Cobalt carbonate =
mixtures and keep the degree of colour saturation low in the total glaze =
you can vary the effect from weak to intense.

I found this out when I fired a wood ash glaze and coloured it with Cob. =
carb. At first the violet shade of the glaze mystified me. Then I =
realised that there would have been preserved wood in the fire, coming =
from fence posts and stumps.

Have fun with your trials and let us all know how you fair.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia
