I'm sorry, and I really don't want to detract from the seriousness
of this discussion... I realize that many people who purchase used
pottery equipment have no idea about the hazards associated with
their new toys (this is one of the reasons I've been looking for info
about the 1950s Craftool wheel I recently picked up... looked up
patent, it looks really interesting...)
When I read this quote from Tony Ferguson, being dyslexic probably
didn't help, I read "I can Vogue for Vince." and was almost completely
disabled by a fit of the giggles...
Just had to share...

I have a Walker Pug mill that does not have the Crash bar,,,,It only has a
stainless lid.
I got it from a friend that had dropped his wooden paddle that he used to
push the clay in. The Pug Mill ate the paddle and bent the shaft with the
blades...It was ruined...
I have a friend with a machine shop when i still lived in Miami,,, and he had
some slack time...He rebuilt that shaft using stainless and put all new
bearings and seals..
Its now like a new machine mmm but im not using it because i use my Venco to
recylce my clay... If i was going to make my own clay i would use the Walker
in a heart beat..
I now buy my clay ,,, but i mite make my own clay up the road....

This thread on Pugmill safety raises a question: when I bought my first
(and only) in 1968 it had a grid bolted into the hopper mouth that you
couldn't even get a finger through and was pressure fed by a plate and
lever. Is this a British variation or is this now the norm in all
Pugmills? it certainly seems pretty foolproof to me.
