I am currently working on updating the MSDS sheets for my ceramics
department. There is a risk management company doing some stuff with the
MSDS materials. I believe they are doing a hazardous materials business plan.
Most of the materials in the chemical room to my knowledge are a chronic
health hazard if they are not used with the proper safety equipment and
environment.
Does anyone know if I should be concerned that they (the Risk management
Company) listed on their inventory sheets the health hazard as mostly
"irritant"?

Most of the materials we use have some free silica - in that case - all
clays, spars and of course silica should have a toxic label. I'm not saying
it's always something to be concerned about - but I have no way of knowing
which materials will not be a problem.
In the studio situation air bourne micron size silica should be minimized
in what ever way you can - there is simply no advantage to breathing it.
I suggest you get all your data from the mines - they will do it right.
The company you buy the materials from must have the MSDSheets from the
mines.
