"Chamote for grog"
I am not sure this is a correct translation. I have not been able to =
find this word in a dictionary. It might be a localism and probably the =
right one to be used in certain parts to be understood. I wonder if =
there is any Clayarter from Spain that might give us their version. I =
would translate "grog" as "agregado" (aggregate) this is a term used to =
describe different aggregates to concrete mixing, such as gravel. It =
could further be described as "agregado refractario" in the case of =
granulated ceramic.
Also the correct translation for Kaolin is not kaoline, but caolin (with =
a marked "acento" in the last syllable that I do not know how to do in =
my computer).
By the way thanks for pointing out to the site with the "pottery =
dictionary" I am sure I will use it in the future.

I believe Chamote is French for grog. It may be used Spain when potter
lives near the frontier

All this talk about throwing thousands of pots and making tons of clay is
like the expression used in the military. We say "making your bones".
We also have another saying it goes like this; "We all want to be heros but
suffer no pain".
Do we have to suffer pain in order to make our bones?
Something to think about.

I=B4m an Argentinian potter.Therefore I speak Spanish.I=B4ve been collec=
ting
ceramic words in order to understand what I read. Different countries hav=
e
different words for the same thing even in spanish. I always translated
"Chamote for grog" but in Spain they call it "Chamota". The word agregado
means anything you add.
Maybe they call things different in Central America, but perhaps I can he=
lp
finding the terms.
