When we opened the kiln, we couldn't believe what we saw. There were
beautiful red coloured wares everywhere in the kiln, from the top to the
bottom, the front to the back. Unloading was a joy with students saying
"Oh!" and "Wow!".
We use a 20-year-old down-draft natural-gas kiln. It has never fired this
beautifully before. We got this amazing result when one of the four burners
wasn't working. The everything else was as usual.
The students expectations will be high for the next firing. Should I turn
off the one burner in order to repeat the good result? We don't have
Oxyprobe.
What a nice day!

I saved this e-mail to see if anyone else would venture a reply.
No, as I thought.
Mitsuru, welcome to the wonderful, confusing, mysterious
world of copper red glazes.
There are so many variables to producing good copper reds,
that I'd venture to say that not a human being on the planet
could answer your question.
And having no way to quantify things with an oxygen meter
just makes it that much harder.
So, yeah, I suggest you try to do the same things you did last time,
and maybe it will work again. But things such as a different stacking
pattern in the kiln, and different weather conditions will affect
the results.
Good luck,
